Dish Of The Week: Hudson Valley Duck Farm Quackers

As we round out our April Sours weekend, we will be featuring an all-duck dinner (a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door with a reservation: call 212-982-3006) with duck sourced from Hudson Valley Duck Farm. Even if you can’t make the dinner tonight, you can enjoy this amazing duck this week as it will be our menu’s featured Dish of the Week! Hudson Valley Duck Farm (Ferndale, NY) offers two varieties of duck raised in a cage-free/antibiotic-free/hormone-free environment at the farm: the classic Moulard and a heritage breed called “Lola,” a gamier duck that is a leaner cross of Pekin and heirloom mallard.

Among the duck offerings you can find regularly at Jimmy’s No. 43 are:

  • Duck Prosciutto Breast
  • Smoked Duck Breast
  • Duck Salami
  • Duck Leg Confit
  • Duck Rillets
  • And various other roast duck dishes

For some of the best tasting quackers in the city, we hope you’ll join us this week for our featured Dish of the Week: Hudson Valley Duck Farm Duck!

A Very Special Thursday Tap™ With Kelso Brewer Kelly Taylor

What’s better than this week’s Thursday Tap™ beer, Kelso of Brooklyn’s Recessionator? Combining this great brew with a meet and greet featuring Brewmaster Kelly Taylor. Kelly is a frequent guest, both at Jimmy’s No. 43 beer events and on Beer Sessions Radio™, and he’s sure to have some great intel on the Recessionator and all the amazing beers being made at Kelso.

The Recessionator is a limited release, barrel-aged dopplebock with “a big, bold (taste), plenty of malt, with a warming rum, toffee, and roasted nut nose, with a very light finish.” This 8% ABV brew may never be made again, so now is your chance to get a taste… and meet the brewer! Jimmy taps at 5 p.m.; Kelly will be by around 6 p.m. A great night to sit around an talk craft beer at Jimmy’s No. 43.

And Now For Something Completely Different: April Sours

It wouldn’t be springtime without sour beer, and this weekend launches the annual April Sours event at Jimmy’s No. 43. In addition to beer seminars on Saturday and Sunday (4/28-29), there will be an all-sour beer $10 Tuesday Tasting on April 31st (yes, we know it’s May, but this year May 1st is part of April sours).

For the ultimate April Sours’ experience, we will have a Prix Fixe family style all-duck dinner on Monday, April 30th, at 7 p.m. (tickets here). Guest chef Brendan Corr (f/o City Bakery, Jim Lahey’s Co.) will make an all-duck, family-style menu with ingredients from Hudson Valley Duck Farm: Smoked duck breast, duck neck terrine, duck confit, etc. This meal will be paired with six of the best sour beers in the world. Beers available throughout the weekend (and through next week) include:

Among the offerings (broken down by country) Jimmy’s No. 43 expects to have either on tap or by bottle will be:

  • From Germany—Fritz Briem, Ichtegem, and Bayerischer Bahnhof, plus various Berliner Weisses;
  • From Belgium—Hanssens Oud Geueze among other Hanssesns offerings, De Dolle, Tilquin, Gaverhopke, Cantillon, Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge, and Rodenbach;
  • From Canada/Quebec—Dieu du Ciel, Hopfenstark, and other saisons;
  • From Switzerland—beers from Brasserie Des Franches Montagnes (BFM);
  • From Denmark—Mikkeller;
  • From the USA—beers from Blind Bat, Allagash, Jolly Pumpkin, Leelenau, Anchorage, Stillwater  and Cascade, among others TBA

Whether you’re a Lambic fan or your novice palate needs an introduction to these brews, you’re sure to find beers that are interesting, refreshing, traditional and—yes—slightly weird compared with most ales and lagers. Some come on over for some April Sours and get your tart on!
