Free Your Mind At Today’s Thursday Tap™ – Freigeist Abraxxxas

We’re very excited to offer a second week of Freigeist on our Thursday Tap™ menu. This week, it’s Freigeist Abraxxxas, a brew inspired by Lichtenhainer (an old style of smoked weisse beer popular in 19th century eastern Germany). At 6% ABV, this Freigeist version also has some lactic sourness because the brewers are fans of sour beers like Berliner Weisse and Gose and because most beers would have had some degree of sourness in the past.

We’ll be tapping at 5 p.m., so come in and enjoy while supplies last.

Eat Like A Queen (Or A Queens’ County Resident)

Did you know that there’s a corn maze in Queens? You read that right! Every fall, you can attempt to navigate the corn maze of Queens County Farm Museum, a working farm for over 300 years, and your host for dinner tonight (and most of this week) as we feature their produce on our menu for the official last week of summer leading into the Labor Day weekend.

The only working historical farm in all five boroughs, Queens County Farm Museum has livestock, a vineyard, and acres (47 of them) of fields open to the public. On weekends from April-October there are $2 hayrides and the corn maze starts mid-September through Halloween.

The mission of the Queens County Farm Museum is to preserve, restore, and interpret the site, its history and owner’s lifestyles. Through educational programs, events, and museum services, the staff educates the public as to the significance of Queens County’s agricultural and horticultural past and heighten awareness of present-day sustainable agricultural and horticultural practices.

Come on out tonight from 6-9 p.m. (regular service is still available; bar/kitchen will be open as usual) and meet the amazing people from Queens County Farm Museum. As an added bonus, we’ll also have Barrier Brewing (Oceanside) on tap to add to the Long Island spirit of Queens.

Ready For Some Thursday Tap™ – Freigeist Ottekolong

You hear “Cologne” and you think “Kölsch.  Also known as Braustelle Helios, this week’s Thursday Tap™ is a keg version of Freigeist Ottekolong, an unfiltered kölsch, fermented with brettanomyces from Gasthaus-Brauerei Braustell. Peter Esser and Sebastian Sauer, the brewers at Braustelle, don’t always brew according to the Reinheitsgebot.  As a result, their special Freigeist Bierkultur line of brews (“freigeist” means “free thinking”) run the gamut from smoky to sour to malty to floral.

This new brewery in town not only brews this kölsch (unfiltered, so they can’t legally call it kölsch) but also other updated versions of old German styles, even an Altbier.  Sacrilege!

At only 4.8% this refreshing (and rare) brew is perfect for the dog days of summer.
