Happy Birthday! To Jimmy and Jimmy’s No. 43

It’s a birthday weekend at Jimmy’s No. 43 and we’re having a double celebration with a bunch of owner Jimmy Carbone’s favorite brews. Not only is it the publican’s birthday (on Saturday… drop by in the evening and raise your glass to him!), but eight years ago this week, Jimmy’s No. 43 was born. Running a restaurant in NYC has its highs and lows. Among the highlights:

  • Highlight – Being one of the very first craft beer bars in the East Village… thankfully, not too many people stumble in these days asking for a Budweiser!
  • Highlight – Raising money for great community groups through our various cookoffs (can’t wait for cassoulet in January!); speaking of which, our friends at FSNYC are having their annual Tomato Fest this Sunday (8/18)… mmm, tomato-based cocktails! Plus, Teen Battle Chef Summer Interns will lend a hand, assisting local chefs serving up tempting tomato dishes to guests in the name of supporting sustainability and a healthy food system for all!
  • Highlight – Introducing many new brewers to the city’s beer drinkers, such as Barrier Brewing, Bronx Brewing and more recently beers from Grimm Artisanal and Port Jeff.
  • Lowlight – Surviving Sandy… we’re still trying to get over last year’s power outage.
  • Highlight – co-founding the Good Beer Seal (in 2009).
  • Lowlight – The St. Patrick’s Day counter-programming of all British beers (the revelers were not amused).
  • Highlight – Bringing in the beers of small breweries around the world via some amazing importers such as Vanberg & Dewulf, Shelton Brothers, 12 Percent, and Rowan Importers.
  • Highlight – Offering an affordable space for up-and-coming arts groups; currently August is Fringe month, so come out and see their shows.
  • Highlight – Sharing great craft beer with Jimmy’s Community!

And speaking of great craft beer, today is Thursday Tap™, and in celebration of the birthday boy and bar, we’ll be tapping Jolly Pumpkin’s Luciernaga (“The Firefly”), a 6.5% Belgian-style pale ale. Another one of Jimmy’s favorites we’ll have available through the weekend is La Rullés Estivale (Bière De Gaume), another Belgian pale. Plus The Wild Beer Company’s Sommerset Saison. And Jimmy’s favorite beer these days: Carton’s Boat Beer! And because we love our locals, we’ll have plenty of Barrier, Newburgh and other NY brews on tap and available by the bottle.

Join us! (Regular bar/restaurant service available; BYOB – bring your own birthdaycake – optional.)
