The Loire Valley Wine Dinner originally scheduled for this evening is postponed until later in the year. In the meantime, Vinotas Selection’s importer, Michel Abood, will be at the communal table with tastings and an a la carte wine and dinner menu. Be sure to stop by and say, “Bonsoir!” to Michel and try some fabulous French wines!
Of course Jimmy’s No. 43 is known for its vast selection of craft beers and our amazing beer-food pairing dinners, but we enjoy a great bottle of vino now and again (and anyone who drinks wine at Jimmy’s No. 43 knows about our infamous “Chimay pour”). Thus, it is with great pleasure that we welcome oenophile Michel Robert Abood, who will be pairing some fabulous Loire Valley wines with great dishes prepared by our resident chef this Wednesday, September 14th, at 7 p.m.
Michel specializes in finding rare vintages from family-owned farms, specifically expensive-tasting wines that belie their price. He tastes a lot of bad wine to get the good stuff to NYC. “If I can drink it, I can’t represent it!” Michel proudly claims. Among the wines at Wednesday’s dinner will be an NV Perlette, a 2010 Aubron Muscadet, a 2010 Pibaleau Noblene d’ Aziaum, a 2009 Pibaleau Heritage d’ Aziaum, and a “super secret” dessert wine. Tickets are going fast ($45 + tip), so get yours today!
Grab a camera and a friend and check out the great Pig Pick-up (in preparation for this weekend’s Pig Island at Governors Island on Saturday) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7th. More than 20 chefs will be showing up to collect their hogs, which will be served up in a variety of styles at Pig Island. This is a spectacle we enjoy each year, as chefs do their best to hoist and carry off the piggies. Hope you can make it!
BECAUSE OF HURRICANE IRENE, WILD FOODS NIGHT IS POSTPONED. We hope all our friends in NYC and at Wild Gourmet (Les, Nova and family) are safe.
Original article about Wild Foods is below…
Watch your “f-word” and join Favorite Food Friends from Wild Gourmet (just don’t use the “f-word“) for a night to benefit Slow Food NYC and the Urban Harvest programs of good food education for New York City kids. Jimmy’s No. 43 is very excited to welcome back Nova Kim and Les Hook, wild food purveyors and philosophers from Vermont,
who will be in the house next Monday, August 29. Begin the night with an a la carte menu of selections (based on availability) such as blossoms, berries, bulbs, greens, herbs, roots, nuts, and mushrooms. Follow up with a ticketed event where Les and Nova will discuss their own Circle of Life philosophy of eating, gathering and living among all the species of this wonderfully abundant world!
This is one of our most popular dinners each season, so be sure to head out post-Irene (the talk is from
6:30 – 7:30, with the kitchen serving up food from 6 p.m. on) and see the more giving side of nature. Just mind your language and embrace the gatherers in the room.
Jimmy’s No. 43 is proud to be the host for a second year for Brewer’s Choice, the featured event of NYC’s Craft Beer Week. Brewer’s Choice will be held at City Winery on September 22nd, from 6-10 p.m., and will be co-hosted by Dave Brodrick (Blind Tiger) with a keynote speech from Garrett Oliver (Brooklyn Brewery).
Each brewer will personally pour you his/her most special beers alongside a thoughtful foor pairing of chocolate, cheese, or charcuterie. Brewer’s Choice will feature 20 brewers from 20 breweries paired with food provided by NYC chefs and artisanal food producers.
This is a great opportunity to meet some of the best brewers in the country, and early bird tickets are selling out fast. Be sure to get yours so you can close out Craft Beer Week 2011 in style.
