We’re going back to Maine for today’s Thursday Tap™ with a NYC launch of Atlantic Brewing Company. You’ll have two taps to choose from: New Guy IPA, a well balanced 5.9% ABV beer made with Columbus hops, and Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout, a 6.7% ABV dray stout that won the rare Platinum Medal at the World Beer Championships in Chicago (1995). In addition, we’ll have a couple of ABC bottles: Bar Harbor Blueberry Ale (a 5.2% ABV fruit ale made from Maine blueberries) and Coal Porter (a 5.5% ABV made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts).
We’ll have Tess and Enrica from the brewery and special guest Luke’s Lobster will be bringing in some tasty treats (limited availability, first-come-first-serve with Atlantic Brewing beer purchase). And if you miss out on Luke’s, no worries, because tonight is our famous Oyster Night! It’s prime NY local oyster season, and for the next few Thursdays,we’ll be serving up Mike Osinki’s “Widow’s Hole” oysters from Greenport (North Fork, Long Island). Mike grows and harvests the oysters himself; he even self delivers!
We tap at 5 p.m., and – as always – regular bar/kitchen service is still available.
Our dearly departed friend Ray Deter spent time in Germany a few years ago following the path of German beers similar to the ones we’ll be serving from gravity casks during our upcoming Real Oktoberfest Weekend (October 5-7). This 3-part video series shows how the beer is made, stored and served! Enjoy.

Franconian beer has a rich history and is perfect for a Real Oktoberfest. For our upcoming celebration, we’ll be bringing in Germany gravity kegs (sometimes called Bayerische Anstich kegs) from various breweries scattered around Franconia. For those that have been to Bamberg, or just about any Franconian village, you’ll recognize these kegs, which are typically set on the bar for serving and are the traditional serving vessels of the Franconian keller.
For our Real Oktoberfest Weekend (Friday, October 5th, through Sunday, October 7th) we’ll be offering a rotation of these interesting and unusual beers:
Mahr’s Ungespundet
Mahr’s Unfiltered Pils
Mahr’s Hell
Bayer Theinheim Landbier
Niklbrau Michala Kellerbier
Weissenohe Unfiltered Pils
Weissenohe Altfrankisch Kloster
Weissenohe Monk’s Fest
Weissenohe Classic Bioland
Lowenbrau Buttenheim Keller
Aufsesser Festbier
Kraus Hirschaid Hirschentrunk
Sauer Rossdorf Urbrau
Well also feature some German-style American beers, such as Victory Fest, Mission Amber Altbier, Mission Blond Koslch-style. Plus we’ll have a great selection of Harvest Beers for our upcoming $10 Tuesday Tastings:
Southern Tier Pumking
Bronx Rye
Wandering Star Red Oktober
Barrier Craven Belgian Style Red Ale
Ommegang Scythe and Sickle Harvest Ale
Founders Fresh Hop Harvest Ale
Freigeist Hoppeditz with smoked malt
Ettalor Curator Doppelbock
For those who want to expand their German experience, we’ll be having a dinner special to go with these beers: $20 for three wurst (sausages) accompanied by traditional Franconian sides (German potato salad, kraut) and My Friend’s Mustard plus two beers! Mark your calendars now, and see you starting Friday!
It’s Thursday! Are you ready for the Thursday Tap™. We certainly are and we’ll be bringing on a new interesting and unusual beer from New Zealand’s Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black. This 6% ABV American-style porter is the brewer’s “multi-award winning ‘Hoppy Porter’ (that some call a ‘black IPA’). The different names convey the fact that this beer is a contradiction of styles: fresh and hoppy, yet dark and rich. Most importantly it is mind-bendingly delicious and a complete original.” There are only 24 kegs in all the USAand we’ve got one of them! As always, we tap at 5 p.m.
And as if you needed another excuse to come to Jimmy’s No. 43, tonight is our big oyster night. We’ll be having a special Slow U: Shuck and Talk in the back room ($30 at the door) and our very own Dave Miss will be shucking out front. We’ll have an oyster special: $20 gets you 1/2 dozen oysters and a Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle Black (or 1/2 dozen oysters and two American pints). Of course, our regular bar service/restaurant menu will be available, as well.
