Meat Week NYC Is Here!

Photo from Jimmy's phone of Chef Jessica Wilson prepping a goat head for Monday's "Meat with a Twist" kick-off party (goat terrine, pickled goat tongue, and apple fennel).

A note from Jimmy, regarding NYC Meat Week. Get all the details here.

I’ve been driving around to the Meat Week participants, dropping off meat (beef to Iris Cafe/Gerald Jerky; pork to Delicatessen – Sous Chef Andrew says “hi”). At the Brooklyn Kitchen/Meat Hook, they have a nice poster in the front window promoting Greenmarket/Grow NYC Meat Week and their sausage making class Tuesday (Tommy Land, their butcher/partner, will also participate in Tuesday’s Food Systems NYC meat panel at the French Culinary Institute). Chef Matteo at White and Church is excited about Monday’s kick off party and Tuesday’s Buffalo Prix Fixe menu. Chef Jessica Wilson is psyched. Ryan Tate found his beef for tartare from Fleischers….

And we’re getting some great press, too! Check out what the NY Times had to say.

All good vibes!

Peace,
Jimmy

Wine Will Win: Beer Versus Wine Challenge 11/2

Now time for the rebuttal! Nicole DeCicco of Upstate Wine Company is ready to “Bring it on!” for Wednesday’s Beer v. Wine Challenge.

Would you toast anything other than Champagne at midnight? We don't think so! (Oh, okay, maybe that's Chris in the middle there.)

How did the beer versus wine challenge come about? What made you want to be involved?

I’m going to give Chris the credit on this one. We met at Jimmy’s where I was educating Jimmy by tasting some of my Finger Lakes wines, and we got talking about wine and beer and so forth. I know that Chris has been wanting to do something like this for some time, so after talking a bunch about both of our projects, he approached me with this idea. I think we both are pretty keen on learning and experimenting with food and our respective beverages, so it seemed like a really fun and palpable idea to get on board with. Also, I love that Chris and Jimmy are so local-centric-minded, so I have been wanting to team up with them on a little project. The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown: Chris Cuzme Tells How Beer Will Win!

This Wednesday is the first ever Beer Versus Wine Challenge (get your tickets here). New York City Homebrewers Guild president Chris Cuzme is weighing in on the event, with a healthy respect for irony. Nicole (DeCicco, of Upstate Wine Company), you’d better bring your A-game!

How did the beer versus wine challenge come about? What made you want to be involved?

Hmmm, “challenge”? I prefer to call it a comparison, or a reminder and reassurance of why beer is so freakin awesome! I’ve wanted to do a Wine vs. Beer event at Jimmy’s No. 43 in this regard for a very very long time, and meeting Nicole during a wine sampling knocked it all into gear. She’s fun, charismatic, and knows her stuff. Nicole also has a mind akin to mine (and Jimmy’s No. 43 on the whole) in so far as she supports locally made products. There’s the ole saying, “Great minds think alike,” and, well, so do ours! Continue reading The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown: Chris Cuzme Tells How Beer Will Win!
