That’s a Wrap! A Great Cider Week with Holidays on the Horizon

We recorded our Cider Salon this past Saturday! We'll let you know when the video can be viewed.

It felt like we were running a marathon, but Cider Week NYC wrapped this past Sunday, and we were overwhelmed by the great array of cider makers (and cider lovers) who visited Jimmy’s No. 43. After a sold-out “Rev.” Nat West’s Cider Seminary on Friday, we hosted an all-day Cider Salon with many of the nation’s great cider makers (Aaron Burr, Farnum Hill, Eden Ice Cider, Embark and many more). We’ll be keeping a great list of ciders over the winter, and we’ll be featuring a weekly Cider & Cheese with Bobolink Dairy and Bakehouse (join us Friday afternoons, buy a cider – or beer, wine, cocktail – and you’ll get free cheese samples!).

And as we go in to the holidays, now’s a great time to reflect on all the positive reviews our new menu from Tito King’s Kitchen at Jimmy’s No. 43 has received. We celebrated our 10th Anniversary last month, and the new liquor menu along with delicious dishes such as our Chicken Wings Adobo has brought us to our second decade in style.

Of course, we love our tradition, too. Coming up in a few weeks – on Saturday, December 5th – will be the Sixth Annual Battle of the Belgians (get your tickets now), featuring great imports facing off against  Belgian-style Americans from Two Roads, Jolly Pumpkin, Folksbier, Allagash, LIC Beer Project and others. And tickets for January’s Eighth Annual Cassoulet Cook-Off are already on sale (click here for information on buying tickets or competing as a pro/am chef).

And of course, we’ll have our annual Christmas Day Beer Brunch plus several New Year’s Eve packages to choose from. And we still have plenty of room to host your party (of any size, be sure to email with inquiries).

Our bar is open for business during all the events, so be sure to drop by and see what’s happening at Jimmy’s No. 43!

First up, it’s Reverend Nat’s Cider Seminary on  Friday, November 13th where you can sample 20+ different ciders with “Rev.” Nat West leading a talk about west coast (and other) varieties of cider. For those who hunger for even more insider information, join in the amazing Cider Salon on Saturday, November 14th. We’re 10! Come Celebrate with us!

Jimmys10YearFB.aiFor traditionalists, today marks our “Tin” Anniversary. That’s right, Jimmy’s No. 43 is celebrating 10 years of a very long strange trip (hurricanes, explosions – four major shutdowns over the years). Mostly, we’re just super grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past decade, making Jimmy’s No. 43 one of the best gastropubs in the US (we always love it when travelers stop by because they heard about us back home!).

In a place like NYC “survival is the new success…” and we’ve more than survived: We’ve thrived thanks to the many patrons and special guests who frequent our establishment. So, tonight, rather than a crazy party, we’re just doing what we do best – and love to do – bringing a trio of killer beer makers from Oregon (The Commons Brewery, Gigantic Brewing Company, and Occidental Brewing Company) along with a couple book authors (Christian DeBenedetti and Andrea Slonecker, signing copies of their new book, Beer Bites) for a meet and greet that will go on until late this evening.

Of course, we’ll have plenty of food from Tito King’s Kitchen at Jimmy’s No. 43 (cool video about us shopping at the Union Square Greenmarket), including several “Lechon” whole roast pigs on tonight’s menu. If you can’t join us, you can show your 10th Anniversary love by buying a gift certificate (our backroom is also available for your holiday parties starting with Halloween in a couple weeks).

And you never know who might stop by to wish us happy anniversary, so keep your eyes peeled for celebrity guests.

Tin foil hat optional!

Fall into Jimmy’s No. 43… Oh, and 10th Anniversary Party Next Week

BackRoom_PartyJimmy’s No. 43 is gearing up for fall with recurring weekend themes and tastings of great cask beers and ciders, including a fall Cider Week preview featuring some of Vermont’s best cider makers at Eden, Shacksbury and Citizen Ciders. It’s all leading up to our favorite beer event of the year, the 6th Annual Battle of the Belgians, taking place on Sunday, December 6th.

Plus, we’re celebrating a decade doing business in the East Village with a 10th Anniversary party on Wednesday, October 14th! We’ll be welcoming special guests (brewers, beer authors, plus local beer celebrities) to mingle with all who want to come out and toast us. In addition to a private celebration in the back room, in the main part of the restaurant we’ll have a pay-as-you-go bash with some of our favorite Oregon Brewers: The Commons Brewery, Gigantic Brewing Company, and Occidental Brewing Company.

Among our featured events for fall:

  • Cask Saturdays. Every Saturday at 1 PM we’re hitting the pins and tapping a cask. Autumn is perfect weather for fest beers from Germany, along with domestic cask ales. On October 17th, we’ll be adding on to Cask Saturday with “Cask 101” featuring Keg & Lantern Brewing Company. Meet the brewer and learn all about the nuanced art that is beer in a cask.
  • “Lechon” Pig Sundays. On Sundays we serve up the whole hog direct from our new Tito King’s Kitchen at Jimmy’s No. 43. Pay by the plate and enjoy this remarkable dish along with sides and a specialty sauce. Available from 1 PM while supplies last.
  • Private Parties. We recently underwent major renovations to the back room, which is the perfect place to throw a holiday party. If you haven’t checked it out recently, be sure to drop in and see the on-going Beer Portrait series by photographer Matt Coats in our “gallery”. Whether it’s dressing up for Halloween or putting together the perfect birthday bash (not to mention New Year’s Eve), we can offer everything from a la carte to fully catered affairs. E-mail to inquire.
  • Vermont Cider Night. We’ll have a full week of cider programming when Cider Week NYC returns on November 6th-15th, but we’re getting a jump start on Saturday, October 24th, with cider makers from Vermont and live Americana music on the Backroom stage.
  • Battle of the Belgians. Tickets are already selling quickly for our sixth annual event featuring three hours of walk-around sampling of some of the world’s best bottled beers paired against American draught Belgian-style ales.

And of course we’ll have all the best craft beer, ciders, wine and cocktails, not to mention our great line-up of dishes from Tito King’s Kitchen at Jimmy’s No. 43

We hope to see you this fall!
