Hitachino Night With Special Guests Steve Beaumont, Pecopeco, Mr. Kiuchi and Chef Cathy Erway

Mr. Kiuchi and his family at last year’s Hitachino night.

If you have been waiting for the perfect dinner to join in on our Monday Night Prix Fixe Dinner series, we’ve got your ticket waiting for you! This Monday, May 6th, we’re having an incredible lineup with the return of Hitachino and Mr. Toshi Kiuchi, who will be providing beer and sake from his Japanese brewery. These libations will be paired with a Japanese fusion dinner curated by New York’s own Cathy Erway (Not Eating Out in NY). Just take a look at the menu:

  • Bacon Katsu Steamed Bun with Napa Cabbage and Green Garlic Mayo – paired with Hitachino Nest Japanese Classic Ale
  • Kinpira Parsnip and Celery Root with Sake and Black Sesame – paired with Hitachino Nest Ancient Nipponia
  • Miso-Broiled Bluefish with Ohitashi Broccoli Rabe – paired with Kikusakari Tarusake
  • Duck Congee with Shiitake Mushrooms and Pickles – paired with Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale AND Kikusakari Red Rice Sake
  • Adzuki Bean Ice Cream – paired with Hitachino Nest Ginger Brew

Jimmy’s No. 43 has a long history with Mr. Kiuchi. After the tsunami hit northern Japan in 2011, Jimmy worked with NYC brewers to raise funds for Japanese brewers affected by the devastation. Our Brewers 4 Brewers event raised over $15,000 that we gave directly to Mr. Kiuchi to drive recovery efforts among his beer brethren. Mr. Kiuchi always visits Jimmy’s No. 43 whenever he comes to the city, and we are happy to have him (and his beers) at this dinner.

In addition to Mr. Kiuchi, we’ll have special guest Steve Beaumont, who will be signing copies of his book, The World Atlas of Beer, and taking us on a virtual tour of Japan. We may even have a few special off-menu sakes available (last year Mr. Kiuchi brought several rare brews to Jimmy’s No. 43 for sampling).

You won’t find another sake dinner like this in the city this spring, so be sure to get your ticket ($45 + tax/gratuity) here before they sell out.

Thursday Tap™ and What’s on Tap: Climax and Westbrook

Tonight’s Thursday Tap™ is a nearby entry from New Jersey’s Climax Brewing Company. Although they’ve been brewing for the better part of 20 years, Climax still pays attention to detail with their German-influenced brews. Point in case, their Spring Bock, a Heller Bock that we’ll be tapping at 5 p.m. today from a gravity cask. Be sure to stop in before we run out (our last cask kicked in a day).

We’ll also be featuring more Westbrook beer this weekend, including their IPA and the White Thai, a 5% ABV Witbier that pairs nicely with our grassfed burger and sweet potato fries. We’ll be rotating Westbrook kegs through the weekend, so come and join us.

Final April Sours Dinner Tonight!

We welcome back guest chef Patti Jackson tonight as we round out April Sours with another of our amazing prix fixe dinners… this one with all sour beer pairings. Check out what’s in store for this evening:

Weisse Weisse Baby For Thursday Tap™ And More Sours For Bacon, Monday Beer Dinner

The tart just keeps on coming! Tonight’s Thursday Tap™ is a fabulous beer from Westbrook in South Carolina that fits in with our April Sours theme. It’s Weisse Weisse Baby, a 4% ABV Berliner Weisse. Brewed with the traditional no boil method, Weisse Weisse Baby is
light, tart, bubbly, and extremely delicious. This is the same brewery that collaborated with Evil Twin to make the Mini Growler Imperial Stout. As always, we tap at 5 p.m., while supplies last and regular bar/restaurant/oyster service is available.

And if you can’t make it in tonight, check out the work in progress that is our beer list for Saturday’s Bacon & Sour Belgians (tickets going fast). Among the sour and wild ales will be (all from Belgium unless noted):

  • Rodenbach Classic
  • Monks Cafe Flemish Sour
  • Green Flash Rayon Vert (San Diego, CA)
  • Cantillon Cuvée St-Gilloise (a Lambic aged two years in oak barrels)
  • Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela (MI)
  • BFM La Cuvée  Alex le Rouge (sour Russian imperial stout from Switzerland)
  • Brasserie Vapeur Cochon (1996 vintage sour ale with spices)
  • Hof Ten Dormaal Barrel Aged Project (dark ale aged in Madeira barrels)
  • Tilquin Oude Gueuze
  • Evil Twin Femme Fatale Blanc  (100% Brett Fermented IPA with Nelson Sauvin Hops) – Denmark by way of Brooklyn
  • Evil Twin Femme Fatale Noir (100% Brett Fermented Black IPA) – ditto!

And tickets are still available for our April Sours dinner with Guest Chef Patty Jackson next Monday, April 29.

So come out and get your sour on! (And click here to read a very cool piece on sour beers from The New York Times mentioning Jimmy’s No. 43.)

Speaking of B. United, we’ll be pairing their beers with Guest Chef Patti Jackson’s menu for our famous April Sours Prix Fixe Dinner next Monday, April 29th at 7 p.m. Part of our Monday Night Dinner Series, a $45 ticket (plus tax, gratuity and service charge at ticket site) will get you (subject to change/beer availability):

We typically pair three different types of bacon from the East Village Meat Market with 10+ samples of Belgian beers. In keeping with our wild theme, this month’s offering will be all sour beers (TBA). The bar opens at noon with seating/sampling from 1-3 p.m.

So, whatever your schedule and your budget, we’ve got plenty of interesting and unusual sour beers to get your through until the real spring shows up in May! Join us (and regular bar/restaurant service is always available for those who prefer their options a la carte).
