Spanish (Asturias) Cider Night With Rowan Imports

If you’ve been looking for a great excuse to join in the thrill of Cider Week NY, tonight is the night you’ve been waiting for. John Belliveau-Flores, co-owner of Rowan Imports, will be sampling from several Spanish and American ciders. The tasting is free (yes, you read that right!), although we hope your tastebuds will be sufficiently tantalized to order more cider from our extensive list of interesting and unusual brews. Among the ciders John will be pouring:

  • Castanon – an unfiltered, natural ciders from the region of Asturias, made with only wild yeast.
  • Villacubera – light and floral, the only single varietal cider produced in Spain.
  • Espanar – Dry and complex, similar to a white wine.  2012 winner of the Alimentaria Food and Beverage Expo for cider.
  • Hidden Star- Sparkling, slightly sweet American cider.  (not made in the champagne style)
  • Slyboro Iced Special Reserve – Sweet American iced cider, absolutely delicious.

We anticipate John will be in the house at 6 p.m., and we’ll have our regular bar/menu service available all night long. Come out and get your cider on!

Cider Week Continues At Jimmy’s No. 43

As always, the regular bar/restaurant service will be available, but for those who want to partake of Cider Week, we’ve got plenty of ciders to choose from!

Celebrate National Chili Month With NY’s Best Amateur Chili Cook-Off

October is National Chili Month and to celebrate New York’s only all-chili restaurant, Lucky 777 Chili Parlor is helping us host New York’s Best Amateur Chili Cook-Off. On October 14th (Sunday) from 1-3 p.m. guests will sample, compare and judge amateur chili cooks finest representation of one of America’s oldest comfort foods.

Participating cooks can go as wild or as tame as they wish and they don’t have to be filled with just meat…. vegetarian chili (like Lucky 777’s) can hold it’s own against even the most meat-heavy chili. (If you’re a last-minute entrant, e-mail Mckenzie to get in to the competition!)

Top prizes will be awarded to The People’s Choice and The Judge’s Choice. In addition to claiming glory of the best amateur chili in NYC, the winner of Peoples Choice will receive a gift certificate to Lucky 777 Chili and Jimmy’s No. 43, and a post-event write-up on both sponsors’ websites. The Judges Choice winner will receive a gift certificate to Lucky 777 Chili and Jimmy’s No. 43. All chefs will receive a $20 gift card, and Seamless has donated $5 gift cards to first 100 attendees!

Tickets are $20 for unlimited chili tastings, fresh baked cornbread muffins and a voucher for a free Lucky Taco at Lucky 777 Chili’s store. Our extensive beer and wine list will be available for purchase separately (regular brunch/bar service will be available during the event). Bobby Do Tube is the MC for the cook-off. All proceeds from this event will benefit God’s Love We Deliver and their expansion campaign.
