Celebrate 4th of July American Style

As a kick-off to July Good Beer Month and to celebrate Independence Day, Jimmy’s No. 43 will be serving up American craft beer and hard ciders all weekend. Rotating taps will include brews by Radiant Pig, Barrier Brewing, Carton and other locally sourced beers. We’ll also have Slyboro Ciders available. We’ll be opening at 5 p.m. this week and through the holiday weekend. Come join us and toast a cheer to America!

Welcome, July Good Beer Month!

Today Jimmy’s No. 43 owner and Good Beer Seal co-founder Jimmy Carbone will be heading down to City Hall to pick up Mayor Bloomberg’s 5th Annual Proclamation that July is Good Beer Month! We’ll have some great Tuesday Tastings and Thursday Taps, but our featured event of the month comes near the end, when Peekskill Brewing’s Jeff O’Neill joins us on July 30th for a  five-course Prix Fixe Dinner with Peekskill beer. Be sure to get your tickets for this opportunity to hobnob with Jeff and try some really great beer and food pairings.

What We Learned From Savor – Long Island Brewers, Commemoration Beer, Good Times

Jimmy’s No. 43 was happy to be at the epicenter of where to go before and after Savor, where Jimmy Carbone helped introduce the official collaboration/commemoration beer at this renown food and craft beer pairing event. Three of the NY State’s finest craft brewers—Brewery Ommegang, Brooklyn Brewery and Saranac Brewery—teamed up to produce New York Limited, a white lager brewed with honey and spices.

Of course, our favorite part of the week’s festivities was hanging out at Jimmy’s No. 43 with various Long Island Brewers. On Friday (June 14th), Barrier Brewing launched their Sav’r for Later collaboration beer with Carton Brewing. And our friends at Port Jeff Brewing held an after party on Saturday (June 15th). Here’s what brewer Mike Philbrick had to say about the festivities:

“Savor was great.  I was excited to showcase our beers with some of the heavy hitters there.  We had an excellent response and got a few new accounts out of it.  Thanks for having the event afterwards Saturday night too.  We ended up having some of the Devils Backbone and Bruery folks out there that night amongst others.”

As we gear up for July Good Beer Month, we’re happy to remember our great beer experience courtesy of Savor!

Heading for the Festival? Beers to look out for!

As some of our community heads north to Portland, ME, for The Festival, we thought this would be a great time to mention some of our favorite brews that you may be able to find on your beer adventures.

  • Stephan Michel and Mahr’s Bräu – We had a great time with Stephan last year and we featured his beers earlier this week for our weekly Tuesday Tasting. Among our very favorites: Bock and Ungespundet.
  • Brasserie de la Senne – Yvan De Baets and Bernard Leboucq have created some amazing brews, including Zinnebir and Taras Boulba
  • Cantillon’s Gueuze Lambic is a favorite during our annual April Sours events.
  • Jolly Pumpkin – speaking of sours, we love the Michigan brewer’s Feugo del Otoño, Oro de Calabaza, and Luciérnaga, among others.
  • Evil Twin’s Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø is a frequent guest to Jimmy’s No. 43. We love his Femme Fatale.
  • Finally there’s one of Jeppe’s collaborators, Westbrook Brewing Co. from South Carolina. Seek out their Goze or White Thai.

And be sure to check in at Jimmy’s No. 43 next week when you’re back for more great beers courtesy of Shelton Brothers and 12 Percent.
