Tonight’s Thursday Tap™: Grimm Artisanal Ales Launch of From The Hip

We’ve been getting a lot of good press this week! On top of a NY Timesfeature on nanobrewers, our good pal Josh Bernstein wrote up a profile on the husband and wife brew team behind today’s Thursday Tap™: Grimm Artisanal Ales. To our knowledge, the Couple Grimm have no relation to the Fairy Tale brothers, but their homebrew story culminates at 5 p.m. this evening with the official launch of From The Hip, a Belgian-style golden ale (7% ABV), which is being sold in limited quantities in only a handful of NYC bars. We’re happy to have Joe and Lauren with us this evening, and can’t wait to see what other beers they come up with in the coming months.

And speaking of that Times article, we’ll have other nanobrews available for purchase through the weekend (and while supplies last), including:

  • Port Jeff Porter
  • Bridge & Tunnel Black Rye IPA
  • Bridge & Tunnel Dunkel
  • Barrier Brewing (several kegs rotating)

We hope you’ll join us for a pint (or two) of nanobrew!

New Summer Menu and NY Grains: Another Tuesday at Jimmy’s No. 43

It’s summer, and the living may not be easy, but we do have a new summer menu and it’s delish!

Featuring local ingredients from regional farms, we have plenty of options to tempt your tastebuds (or to pair with your favorite interesting and unusual craft beer). Choose from:

  • Fancy Hot Dog – a Mangalitsa pork bratwurst sourced from Møsefund
  • Shrimp Salsa Verde Tacos
  • Grass Fed Burger
  • Plus vegetarian fare

Speaking of local food, we’ll be hosting Cayuga Pure Organics tonight (they make a heck of a polenta). CPO is a small farm near Ithaca with a big impact on the regional food system, being one of the few grain producers in the region.  At the end of May 2013, a devastating fire destroyed the barn that contained CPO’s equipment and inventory, and we’re helping them raise funds to rebuild the barn and replace their equipment. We’ll be hosting them tonight for their “NY Grain Supply Chain 101” workshop. There will be food, drinks and a silent auction starting at 6 p.m.

Find out how you can contribute here, and be sure to join us tonight at Jimmy’s No. 43 (regular bar/restaurant service also available).

Today’s Thursday Tap™ – Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve and Books!

We’re happy to have a special guest at this week’s Thursday Tap™: Brooklyn-based author Jennifer Miller, who is on a mission to set a RecordSetter world record for the most author events hosted in a single month—100 book clubs in 30 days. She’ll be here to promote the paperback release of her first novel, The Year of the Gadfly.

And in honor of Jennifer’s Brooklyn ties, we’ll have two Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve kegs for Thursday Tap™. First up is Silver Anniversary, a special Doppelbock version (9% ABV) of the Brooklyn Lager that was introduced when the brewery opened in 1988. We’ll also have Brooklyn Scorcher, a sessionable (4.5% ABV) American IPA.

This is July Good Beer Month, and the other night on Beer Sessions Radio™ Brooklyn Brewery Beermaster Garrett Oliver read Mayor Bloomberg’s 5th Annual Proclamation (you can check him out at the 30 minute mark here). You can find all the Good Beer Seal bars and their mission at goodbeerseal.com.

We invite you to drop by and see what Jennifer’s book is all about and have some great Brooklyn Brewery beer while you’re at it. Regular bar service also available.

Come to Tonight’s Tuesday Tasting for Cellar Reserves!

We have a great line-up planned for tonight’s Tuesday Tasting. Show up at 7:30 p.m. (please be prompt; latecomers may not find a seat!), and for $20 you get six samples from this incredible line up of interesting and unusual beers:

  • Sierra Nevada Summerfest – Sierra Nevada’s take on a golden lager: clean & crisp with a nice hop profile.
  • Mahr’s Ungespundent – Unfiltered pilsner from Germany.  Light and refreshing with a nice yeast complexity.
  • Timothy Taylor Landlord – a true English Bitter.  Nice caramel malt backbone & with a grassy hop finish.
  • Uerige Sticke – the original Dusseldorf Altbier.  Light on the palate with a charred malt flavor and aromas of dried fruits.
  • Lagunitas IPA – a classic west-coast IPA, with flavors and aromas of pine and citrus with a bitter finish.
  • Grando Plato Strada San Felice – an Itlian Doppelbock brewed with chestnut honey that gives it a sweet flavor without being overdone.  The malt backbone brings forth a deep amber color with flavors and aromas of figs and roasted nuts.

See you tonight at Jimmy’s No. 43 (regular bar service also available).
