Guest Blog Post: Sassy Beer Sisters Sum Up Beer Cocktail Brunch-Off

A great review of yesterday’s brunch off (original post here) by one of the Sassy Beer Sisters, Stevie Ann:

What better way to spend a Saturday then at a Brunch-Off?

What a great concept: brunch-off.  I just like saying those words: brunch-off, brunch-off, brunch-off! 🙂  I think that should be the Food Networks next tv show…. Brunch-Off!
NYC Hot Sauce pairs their spicy lime bocktail with cheddar!
With all the buzz in the beer world about bocktails, it’s a not a surprise that the unofficial NYC beer club house threw a beer cocktail event this weekend.  Jimmy’s no 43 hosted a friendly competition with NYC beer sommeliers going head-to-head with their own concoctions of bocktails.
The “spa” bocktail at the event: carrot, ginger, and hefe.

Turn out included: Chris Cuzme of Wandering Star, writer John Holl, Brew York New York’s Chris O’Leary, Jon Bratton of NYC Hot Sauce, Sean McCain of Victory Brewing, Anne Likes Beer from The Ginger Man, Maia Raposo from Brooklyn Brewery, Mary Izett of My Life on Craft, Luke Manson of Blind Tiger, and Jimmy’s No 43’s own Nik Bullit.

Brooklyn Brewery’s take on the Dark & Stormy
A raspberry, OJ & Hefe bocktail.  Sassy!

While all attempts at the beer cocktail were not created equal, there were some tasty tinctures and a few absolute successes! My two personal favorites were Nik Bullit’s Michelada spiked with pickled oyster juice & Mary Izett’s Bangkok Black Eyes (a mix of creme, iced coffee, and Crossroads Scotch Ale).

The winner? “Ann Likes Beer” of The Gingerman NYC.  Sadly, I didn’t even get to try her bocktail!  What a great excuse to return to Jimmy’s 43 though as her tasty mixture will be featured on their brunch menu this Sunday forward.
