You, Too, Can be Part of the Café Society!

Jimmy-NY-Mag-Postcard-FrontMany of our frequent patrons know about the best kept secret spot in all the East Village, our Backroom! However, we’re basking in the spotlight as Woody Allen’s latest film, Café Society, prominently features the space, all decked out to look like a 1930s Jazz Club (additional scenes feature our dining room).

We’re taking advantage of the photographic publicity to give our Backroom a bit of a facelift: Now you can have your party here, too! Whether it’s for birthdays, holidays or some other special occasion, you can book now for the coming months (reservations via email). We have both themed party and open bar options.

Or if you’re looking for your business, we have availability Monday-Friday until 5PM for company meetings (with or without lunch). Located in the heart of the East Village, we’re perfectly located for your company get-togethers.

We invite you to enjoy being part of the Jimmy’s No. 43 Café Society!

Summer of Cider, Summer of Gose

KCBC_FirstKegWe made it through the heat of July and August is looking mighty fine thus far as we turn our focus back to some of our favorite summer libations. This week, we’ll be welcoming Urban Farm Fermentory’s Eli Cayer, maker of ciDAH. On Friday (August 5th), we’ll be tapping a keg of his ciDAH and hanging with Eli from 5PM on.

And speaking of cider, there’s still time to get tickets to this Saturday’s CiderFeast, which we are co-producing and which features 30+ ciders poured by more than a dozen of our favorite cider makers. Expected to be in attendance are:

  • Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider – NY
  • Big Apple Cider – NY
  • Shacksbury – VT
  • Original Sin – NY
  • Austin Eastciders – TX
  • E. Z. Orchards – OR
  • Aspall – UK
  • Ciders of Spain – Spain
  • WineSellers LTD, Importers – Spain/France/UK
  • Downeast
  • Virtue – MI
  • Doc’s
  • Ciderboys – WI
  • Wolfer – NY
  • Farnum Hill – NH

You can get tickets for CiderFeast (being held at East River Park at 23rd Street on the Manhattan waterfront) here.

Back at home, we’ll be freshening up our Summer of Gose menu and offering a select few seats to Cicerone v. Cicerone on Wednesday, August 17th (also a certain proprietor’s birthday!). You’ll get six beers paired to three courses by two Certified Cicerones. Only 20 seats available for this rare beer and food pairing.

And Jimmy’s No. 43 is still the launchpad for many new brewers and cider makers coming into the city. We recently launched Kings County Brewers Collective (from Bushwick, Brooklyn); we still have their sessionable Saison, Sandcastles, available on draught. Check out our full (and rotating) beer and cider list here.

July Good Beer Month Closing Out with Tastings, Slim Pickens Launch

JimmyGBSAwardsIt’s been a fabulous #JulyGoodBeerMonth as we played host to many events including last week’s Eighth Annual Good Beer Seal Awards. As one of the founding bars of the Good Beer Seal, we’re proud to be part of the great craft beer culture in NYC and the celebration of good beer every July.

And the month’s not over yet! Tonight (July 26th) we’ll be having a low-key meet-and-greet with St. Louis Brewery’s Tom Schlafly. We’ll have several of the mid-west brewers beers available, including brews perfect for these hot days:

  • Grapefruit IPA (on draught)
  • Kolsch (draught)
  • Hop Trial (in bottles)

Of course, we’ll have many more beers, ciders and cocktails to cool you down, so drop by and say hello to Tom.

Our final event for July Good Beer Month will be a very cool simultap of Slim Picken’s Passionfruit Cider, Make Momma Proud. The brainchild of Cigar City’s Todd Strauss, this cider is made from Scandinavian apples and Chilean passionfruit and will be tapped simultaneously at seven bars in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn on Friday (July 29th).

Welcome July Good Beer Month

JGBM2016The fireworks were awesome and we’re deep in to summer and it’s July Good Beer Month in NYC! We’re proud to be celebrating the month where great beer makers, craft beer, the bars that serve them up and the many industry professionals that make NYC (and NY State) an awesome place to be part of the brew scene.

This month we’ll have several cool events – and don’t forget that we’ll be celebrating the Summer of Gose all month long, as well – including a Cicerone* Appreciation night on Tuesday, July 12th, and a special beer dinner featuring a menu from Crimson & Sparrow paired with Hudson Valley beers on Monday, July 18th.

*The Cicerone program is part of the “beerducation” movement, where industry professionals earn various levels of certification (similar to being a Sommelier in the wine world). We’re going to be hanging out with a diverse group of Cicerones (of all levels) as they mingle and make beer recommendations. This public event will give you a chance to learn more about great craft beer or test your beer knowledge against that of certified professionals.

Be sure to join us for our new summer menu and special beers all month long (and, of course, we’ll still have our custom cocktails, wine, spirits and cider).

We’ll see you soon for July Good Beer Month!

Summer of Gose, Rose and Cider

SUMMERofGOSERemember last year’s Summer of Gose? We’re happy to be bringing back all our summertime favorites, celebrating tart, sour, refreshing and crisp beverages that are perfect for when the temperatures rise.

Among our featured beers this week are:

  • Troublesome Brewing’s Off-Color Gose
  • Leipsiger Gose
  • Westbrook Gose (in cans)

Plus, this Saturday, we’ll be grilling on Manhattan’s waterfront at Little Big BBQ (and Jimmy’s will be open for regular business on Saturday, as well). On Monday (June 20th) we’ll be throwing a party for Heritage Radio Network and Beer Sessions Radio, as we focus on beers of the Hudson Valley (come by Monday evening after 6PM to drink with radio hosts and the brewers we’ll be featuring on the “New Primitives” episode of Beer Sessions Radio). And in just over a week (on Sunday, June 26th), we welcome back one of our favorite cider makers, Eleanor Leger of Eden Ice Ciders, for a cider talk with meet and greet.
