Autumn Beckons with Broken Bow, The Real Oktoberfest, and Shelton Brothers Sour Beer Dinner

The days are getting a bit cooler, the nights are getting a bit longer and Jimmy’s No. 43 is welcoming fall with more events, beer launches, cool brews and the return of Vegetarian Nonsense™!

First up this week is the NYC launch of Broken Bow Brewery from Tuckahoe, NY. They only recently held their grand opening and they’ll be bringing down two, possibly three, of their great beers for this week’s Thursday Tap™ (on 9/12). You’ll get a chance to mix and mingle with the Broken Bow team and ask them about their new (ad)venture.

And because we know that Oktoberfest actually runs in September (starting at noon on 9/21), we’ll be hosting The Real Oktoberfest, starting, well, at noon on 9/21 as we rotate through several German gravity casks. Come and drink beer like it was meant to be!

And if you missed (or got squeezed out of) our sold-out vegetarian sour beer dinner this past spring, we have a reprisal when Vegetarian Nonsense™ Sour Beer Dinner with Shelton Brothers takes place on Monday, September 23rd at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

And we always have regular restaurant and bar service for all our guests who just want to drop in and hang out with us!

Pig Island Preview: Thursday Tap™ with Sixpoint’s The Grätzer

We’re getting geared up for this weekend’s Pig Island in Red Hook (info and tickets here), and what could put us in the mood more than a smoked beer to go with the smoked pork we’ll be eating (among many other dishes)! There will be plenty of Sixpoint Craft Ales over at the event, and we’re getting a head start for today’s Thursday Tap™ with their Mad Scientist Series #14: The Grätzer, a very sessionable (3.8% ABV) smoked wheat beer.

So, we’ll be prepping our hogs, drinking Sixpoint beer, and looking forward to a great weekend. Join us!

As always, we tap at 5 p.m., while supplies last, and regular bar/restaurant service is available.

Thursday Tap™ – Yonkers Brewing Night, Meet The Brewer

It’s going to be a great Thursday Tap™ tonight as Yonkers Brewing joins us with four (count ’em, four!) of their great beers. On tap, we’ll have:

  • The brewer’s flagship beer, Yonkers Lager, an easy drinking, 5.2% ABV, Vienna Lager with a balance between the rich malt character and hop presence
  • Yonkers IPA, a 6.0% ABV west-coast-style IPA
  • Yonkers Stout (nitro pour)
  • Yonkers Belgian Pale Ale

We’ll be starting Thursday Tap™ at 5 p.m., and we  will be there with Nick Califano, Jackie Rubbo, Sharif Abou-Taleb and John Rubbo from Yonkers from about 6 p.m. on.  Plus regular bar/restaurant service available. Join us for great local beer and meet the Yonkers Brewing team!

New Tuesday Night Happy Hour

Beginning this evening from 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays are Happy Hour Night at Jimmy’s No. 43! We’ll be featuring beers and offering food samples (while supplies last) and, of course, there’s the Tuesday Tasting at 7:30 p.m. ($20 – Tonight’s tasting is Scandinavian beers).

At tonight’s Happy Hour, we’re On The Road to Pig Island! We’ll be featuring a variety of sausages from Flying Pigs Farm, which will be bringing whole hogs to our annual Union Square Pig Pick-up next Wednesday, September 4th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Tickets for Pig Island can be purchased here.)

Plus, we’ll be featuring happy hour specials on all our NY State beers including, Barrier Brewing.

Also tonight, we welcome City Council Member Jessica Lappin for a meet-n-greet. Stop by and hear more about the upcoming Manhattan Borough President election.

Or just come in for a pint (or two!) at the new Tuesday Night Happy Hour!

Thursday Tap™ – Het Nest Manhattan Launch, Meet the Brewer, and Lawless Jerky

It’s a very special Thursday Tap™ when brewer Filip Govaerts from Brouwerij Het Nest from Turnhout, Belgium, joins us for a new beer launch! The Het Nest brewery started as a group of friends with a beer tasting club.  They then moved on to brewing classes and, eventually, to brewing their own beer. Join Filip Govaerts from the brewery for the debut of two of their beers in New York:
  • Turnhoutse Patriot Saison (draft) is a 6.5% saison brewed with barley malt, spelt, American hops, and fermented with a French saison yeast strain.  Brewed in honor of the city of Turnhout’s 800th anniversary.  The city of Turnhout is known for the manufacturing of playing cards which is why their logo is a hand of cards and playing cards are featured on most of the labels.
  • Ace of Spades (bottles) is a 6.5% amber ale hopped with Tomahawk and Simoe and fermented with brettanomyces during secondary fermentation.

And around 6 p.m., we’ll be bringing in Lawless Jerky for meaty samples of their artisan, small-batch jerky!
